Edith Dare Brown (Brackenridge)
Edith Dare Brackenridge Brown, age 89, of 1710 Main Street, Clifton Woods Apartments, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Tuesday, February 14, 2017. She was born August 21, 1927 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Lonnie and Maude Nicely Brackenridge. She was retired from housekeeping at the former Liberty House Nursing Home and Golden Living Center Nursing Home, and attended Living Stones Ministries. She enjoyed reading, and loved her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Brown in 1998; a son, Kevin Brown; a sister, Mae Hall; a brother, Bill Brackenridge; a granddaughter, Laura Brown; and a great great granddaughter, Madeline Johnson. She is survived by four daughters, Dreama Robinson and husband Butch of Clifton Forge, Pam Thurston and husband David of Eagle Rock, Cindy Hayslett and husband Lonnie of Eagle Rock, and Mary Irvine and husband Larry of Clifton Forge; three sons, Barry Brown and wife Irma, David Brown and wife Shari, and Daniel Brown and wife Kathy, all of Clifton Forge; three brothers, Bob Brackenridge and wife Mirah Jane of Pensacola, FL, Freddie Brackenridge and wife Mary Lee of Iron Gate, and Monty Brackenridge and wife Jane of Clifton Forge; 45 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; a number of niece and nephews; and three special friends, Bessie White, Bernie Walton and Lula Bell Nicely. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Mike Rollins officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be David Brown, Dalton Vess, Jason Brown, Johnnie Robinson, Chris Huffman, Ray Huffman, Kurt Robinson, Roman Brown, Jeremy Baldwin, Andrew Brown, and Charlie Brown. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
