Ila Claytor (Chestnut)
Ila Chestnut Claytor, 79, of 115 Meadows of Wilson Court, Clifton Forge, died peacefully on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 1, 1936, in Highland County, Virginia, a daughter of the late James O. and Icie G. Chestnut. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, and was a member of the Wesleyan Fellowship and the Wesleyan Sunday School Class. She was also a retired insurance agent with the Racey and Dean Insurance and Real Estate Agency in Clifton Forge. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters; Christine Chestnut, Juanita Thompson, six brothers; James O., Jr., Curtis, Carl, Darrel, Lyle and Stewart Chestnut. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Douglas L. Claytor, two daughters; Cynthia Edwards and her husband Major(USMC Ret.)Douglas Edwards, of Fredericksburg, Carol Claytor, of Clifton Forge, one son; Douglas O. Claytor, of Hampton, six grandchildren; Matthew Edwards, David Edwards, Travis Claytor, Kyle Claytor, Kaitlyn Claytor, Heather Claytor, one sister; Anita Cauley, of Hot Springs, two brothers; Lowell Chestnut and his wife Thelma, of Monterey, Bobby Chestnut and his wife Edna, of Stephens City, three sisters-in-law; Emily Chestnut, Herthal Chestnut, Jean Chestnut, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Lynn Wright officiating, assisted by the Reverend W. Pembroke Hall. Entombment will follow in the lower mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park in Low Moor. Active pallbearers will be; Douglas O. Claytor, Douglas Edwards, Matthew Edwards, David Edwards, Travis Claytor, and Kyle Claytor. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM Monday until the time of the service at Nicely Funeral Home. Her family suggest that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Central United Methodist Church-Nurture and Nourish or Kitchen Committee, 414 W.
