Obituary

Russell Lawrence "Lonnie" Thompson, age 56, of 1046 Callie Mines Road, Clifton Forge, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor. Born February 14, 1954 in Alleghany County, Virginia, Lonnie was a son of the late Russell Lenwood and Jimmie June Leasure Thompson. He attended University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the rugby team. He was a millwright for Dana Corporation of Buena Vista. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his aunt, Lorraine Davis of Salem, his uncle and aunt, Frank and Rose Dodge of Roanoke, and a number of cousins. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Bill Dillon officiating. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. The family will receive friends following the service at Nicely Funeral Home.
