Robert Henry "Bob" Johnson, Sr., age 86, of 202 Railroad Ave, Iron Gate, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at his residence. Born February 16, 1924 in Iron Gate, Virginia, he was a son of the late Edward McKinley Johnson and Lizzie Chambers Johnson. He served in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean War, and was a retired brakeman for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Miller Johnson in March of 1993; a sister, Virginia Elizabeth Ray; and two brothers, Carl T. "Tenny" Johnson and Edward "Joc" Johnson. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Paulett Johnson of Iron Gate and Lenora "Sue" Cooper and husband Glenn of Iron Gate; two sons, Sheldon Bruce Johnson and wife Barbara Jean of Buckingham and Robert Henry Johnson, Jr. and wife Teresa of Clifton Forge; a brother, William "Billy" Johnson and wife Dorothy "Dot" of Iron Gate; two sisters-in-law, Shirley M. Gordon of Richmond and Betty M. St. John of Pennsylvania; fourteen grandchildren, Rodney Eugene Davis, LaTishia Wilson and husband Brian, Tiffany A. Johnson and companion Earl, Tedra Alfaed and husband Mike, Tanya A. Johnson, Julian Johnson and wife Rebecca, Brandon A. Johnson, Roman A. Johnson, Stephen I. Johnson, Marcel D. Wallace, Brianna Tia Johnson, Veronica Gordon and husband Myron, Vermica M. Cooper and Victoria M. Cooper; nine great grandchildren, LaTia Wilson, Brianna Wilson, Brice Wilson, Jachia Hudson, Makayla Cox, Melanie Cox, Calvin Johnson, Kavon Johnson and Isaiah A. Wallace; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Harold G. Preston officiating and Veronica Gordon delivering the eulogy. Interment will take place at Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Pallbearers will be Louis Chambers, Michael Gordon, Myron Gordon, Michael Hunter, Brandon Johnson, Carl Johnson, Derek Ray, Alex St. John, Marcel Wallace and Brian Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Goode, Charles Hughes, Clarence St. John, Jr., McKinley Johnson, Cornelius Ray, Ronald Keith Ray, Warren Ray, Peter Smith, Williie Johnson,and Roderick St. John, Sr. Flower Bearers will be Reva Blake, Rhonda Glaze, Carlene Hunter, Carmela Johnson, Sharon Turner, Whitney Vaughn, and Lynn Johnson. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
