Joy Louise Stanley Lawhorn, age 56, of 1126 Commercial Avenue, Clifton Forge went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Born January 11, 1953 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Onva Louise Burger Stanley. She was an administrative assistant for the Clifton Forge Police Department and a member of the New Life Church of God in Covington, where she was director of music and played drums and guitar. She was a New Orleans Saints football fan and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Stanley. She is survived by her husband of thirty-eight years, James Lawhorn, Sr. of Clifton Forge, two daughters, Stacy Jeffries and husband Doug of Selma and Ashley Lawhorn of Clifton Forge, a son, James "Jimmy" Lawhorn, Jr. of Clifton Forge, two sisters, Terry Bland of Covington and Jackie Windsor and fiance Tyrone of Eagle Rock, four brothers, Ronnie Stanley and wife Ann of Buchanan, Johnny Stanley of Grundy, Frank Stanley and wife Robin of Roanoke, and Bobby Stanley and wife Patricia of Clifton Forge, three grandchildren, Loriza "Josie" Hull, Makayla "Shugs" Jeffries, and Taylor "Tot Tot" Jeffries, a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Becky and Joe Friend of Roanoke and Sandy Reid of Alabama. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Tim Haga and Reverend Joe Friend officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be members of the Clifton Forge Police Department. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
