Emmett Hartley Kirts, age 80, of 500 Granville Avenue, Clifton Forge, Va died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at his residence. He was born September 11, 1927 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Wallace Buchanan Kirts and Clara Grice Keller Kirts. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was a retired electrician for CSX Transportation. He was a member of the IBEW Union (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). He was also a member of the Central United Methodist Church, where he was in the Men’s Bible Class, a member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Roanoke Valley, the Kazim Shriners, the Clifton Forge Shrine Club, and was active in the C & O Historical Society. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Ray Baker and Clara Lorraine Kirts, a brother, Wallace Keller Kirts, and a nephew, Dale Kirts. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Meadows Kirts of Clifton Forge, two daughters, Linda Lee Kirts Ross and husband Codie of Short Gap, WV and Pamela Kay Kirts Glover and husband Larry of Staunton, a son, Emmett Hartley “Buddy” Kirts, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, a sister, Peggy Zena Campbell and husband Claude of Chesapeake, a sister-in-law, Florine Waddill Kirts of Newport News, eight grandchildren, Traci Belcher, Nikki Sprouse, Kelley White, Codie Ross, III, Matthew Glover, Andy Glover, Kirt Glover, and Laura Denning, seventeen great grandchildren, six nieces, and seven nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Charlie Johnson and Reverend Jim Grogan officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Masonic Rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. and A.M. Active Pallbearers will be Matthew Glover, Andy Glover, Kirt Glover, Codie Ross, III, Todd Denning, and Paul Belcher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Norman Dew, David Hartsook, Claude Campbell, Bill Stone, Frank Hopkins, Whiskers Lane, and Ollie Wright. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
